Review & Giveaway: The Vanishing by Wendy Webb

Description (from cover):

'Recently widowed and rendered penniless by her Ponzi-scheming husband, Julia Bishop is eager to start anew. So when a stranger appears on her doorstep with a job offer, she finds herself accepting the mysterious yet unique position: caretaker to his mother, Amaris Sinclair, the famous and rather eccentric horror novelist whom Julia has always admired...and who the world believes is dead.

When she arrives at the Sinclair's enormous estate on Lake Superior, Julia begins to suspect that there may be sinister undercurrents to her 'too-good-to-be-true' position. As Julia delves into the reasons of why Amaris chose to abandon her successful writing career and withdraw from the public eye, her search leads to unsettling connections to her own family tree, making her wonder why she really was invited to Havenwood in the first place, and what monstrous secrets are still held prisoner within its walls.'

My thoughts:

I am in love with Wendy Webb and her writing. All her books have a hint of mystery, romance and a kick ass ghost story. I've never been one for ghost stories, but this author makes me want to gobble everything she writes right up. I know that when I get a book from this author that I will be entertained from page one. There is never a dull moment in her books and they always are page turners. There is such a mysterious element of the paranormal that it is utter intriguing. There are plot twists and turns in this one that I did not see coming and that added and element of surprise to this novel. Webb has a fantastic way of weaving a tale that leaves the reader absolutely begging for more.

Julia Bishop is utterly at her wits end following his suicide and his involvement in a Ponzi scheme that left her friendless and alone. When an unknown stranger shows up on her doorstep and offers her a chance to start a new life where no one will know her name or her past, she jumps at the chance. She ends up at somewhat eerie, but intriguing mansion of the famous horror writer Amaris Sinclair. There are secrets in this old house, but there are even more secrets contained in the people who live in the house.

If you haven't read a Wendy Webb novel yet, I'm telling you that you are seriously missing out. When I was offered a chance to read her newest release, I jumped at the chance knowing that I would absolutely adore anything she writes. Her books have such a presence, that even as a person who normally doesn't read this genre, they are genuinely unforgettable. A fantastic read that I was honored to read before publication. I can't wait for the rest of you to discover this gem when it is released.
